Sininen texel, Blue Texel (Texel bleu)

Rodusta: Sininen Texel on hollantilainen lammasrotu. Rodulle tunnusomaista on mäyrämäinen väritys päässä ja teräksenharmaa/sininen villa.

Ensivaikutelma: Hienostunut tumma. teräksenharmaa väri, ruskeiksi paahtuneet tapulien kärjet. Rasvainen. Kuidut kiharia, vaihtelevan pituisia.

Kehruu: Kehräsin osan sellaisenaan, mutta osassa villaa oli "talia" tai muuta töhnää ja se piti pestä ennen kehruuta. Rukki oli puhdistettava tämän villan kehruun jälkeen! Helppo kehrätä ohutta "huivilankaa".

Lanka: Noin 100 grammasta villaa tuli 60 grammaa ja peräti 280 metriä pestyä 2-säikeistä lankaa. Kaunista, kuohkeaa, pehmeää, kauniisti meleerattua harmaata (kuva vyyhdistä on surkea, lanka on luonnossa tummempaa). Tekisi mieli kerrata sekaan ohut metallilanka ja tehdä langasta huivi.

Käyttö: Pehmeytensä vuoksi sopii myös ihoa vasten pidettäviin neuleisiin. Tumma tweedmäinen lanka korostaa muita värejä.

About the breed: Blue Texels are the same as ordinary Texels but express the recessive "blue" Agouti coat pattern gene. This gives them the distinctive badger-like face markings and fleece which shows a steely blue colour when the flank wool staples are opened.

First impression: A distinguished dark steel grey colour, the tips of the staples are brown. Greasy. The fibers are crimpy, some shorter, some longer.

Spinning: Part of the fleece was waxy, so I washed those parts but spun the rest of the fleece as it were. I had to clean the spinning wheel after spinning this fleece! Very easy to spin a thin yarn.

Yarn: Out of ca. 100 grams I got 60 grams and 280 metres of 2-ply yarn. The yarn is soft and airy and has a very nice tweedy colour.

Use: Because of its softness, this yarn could be used for knitwear that is worn against the skin, such as scarves or hats, also sweaters.
